About the author

Noortje van Amsterdam is a happily married mother of two who lives in the Netherlands. She works as an assistant professor at Utrecht University where she engages in teaching and qualitative research around social inequalities related to health and embodiment in the workplace. She is particularly interested in experiences that are silenced and taboo, and often uses arts-based methodologies to attend to the viscerality of these experiences. Following Sara Ahmed, she identifies as a feminist killjoy who tries to address structural inequalities related to gender, age, size and more. Echoes that Matter is her first collection of poetry. With this self-published collection, she intentionally blurs the boundaries between private troubles and public issues, academic and lay knowledge, and art and activism.
